The City
Rome is the capital of Italy and a special commune. Rome also serves as the capital of the Lazio region. With 2,876,051 residents in 1,285 km2 (496.1 sq. m). The Vatican City is an independent country inside the city boundaries of Rome, the only existing example of a country within a city: for this reason, Rome has been often defined as the capital of two states. Rome is a great walking city, and surprisingly doable. Toss your coin, then cross the Via del Corso toward the Pantheon. This building appears suddenly before you amid the hustle and bustle of modern-day Rome. The space inside the Pantheon is a perfect sphere, and the poured-concrete coffered dome is still the largest ever built. With wonderful palaces, millennium-old churches, grand romantic ruins, opulent monuments, ornate statues and graceful fountains, Rome has an immensely rich historical heritage and cosmopolitan atmosphere, making it one of Europe's and the world's most visited, famous, influential and beautiful capitals. Today, Rome has a growing nightlife scene and is also seen as shopping heaven. It is also being regarded as one of the fashion capitals of the world with so many sights and things to do, Rome can truly be classified as a "Global city".
